Akitogo develops, modernises and runs ColdFusion applications from Frankfurt, Germany: code audit, migration from Adobe ColdFusion to Lucee or BoxLang, move to ColdBox – while your application stays in production.
Diese Seite auf Deutsch lesenColdFusion development and modernisation from Frankfurt
Many companies run business-critical applications written in ColdFusion (CFML) that have grown over many years: ERP and order systems, portals, image and media databases, internal tools. In 2026 the question is no longer whether these applications can keep running, but how to keep developing them securely, maintainably and at reasonable cost. That is exactly where we help: Akitogo knows ColdFusion from its own product development, for example AKIBASE.
Our ColdFusion services
- Assessment and code audit: We review your CFML stack, dependencies, security risks and performance and show where modernisation pays off – with a concrete action plan.
- Migration from Adobe ColdFusion to Lucee or BoxLang: Cut licence costs and move to a current, open runtime – including compatibility checks, tests and the switch of your deployments.
- Moving to ColdBox: We transfer legacy code step by step into an MVC architecture with ColdBox, make modules testable (TestBox) and create a base on which new features can be built quickly.
- Development and maintenance: New features, integrations (REST APIs, e-invoicing, payment services, AI services) and ongoing care of your application – as an extended workbench or with full responsibility.
- Team support and tooling: Introduction of CommandBox, VS Code, Git-based deployments and AI-assisted development (code analysis, refactoring, tests) together with your team.
The ColdFusion ecosystem in 2026
ColdFusion has evolved from a proprietary server technology into an open, modular ecosystem. Three building blocks shape modern CFML development:
- ColdBox is the established MVC framework in the CFML ecosystem, continuously developed for more than a decade, with integrated testing (TestBox), security modules and commercial support. For legacy applications, migrating to ColdBox is usually the most effective way to restore maintainability.
- Modern tooling: CommandBox as the CLI for servers, dependencies and deployments, ForgeBox as the package repository (comparable to npm or Packagist) and Visual Studio Code instead of proprietary IDEs.
- Choice of runtime: Adobe ColdFusion remains the commercial reference for companies with existing support contracts. Lucee is the widely used open-source alternative (LGPL) and the basis of many cloud deployments. BoxLang is the newest development: a modern JVM language, fully CFML-compatible, with an open-source core and commercial add-on modules.
How we work
- Assess
Inventory of code, infrastructure and risks. Result: a prioritised plan with an effort estimate. - Stabilise
Reproducible development environment with CommandBox, version control, automated tests for the critical paths. - Migrate step by step
Runtime switch and framework migration in small, individually deployable steps – your application stays in production throughout. - Hand over or operate
Documentation and training for your team, or we take over maintenance and operations permanently.

Frequently asked questions about ColdFusion projects
Does ColdFusion still have a future?
Yes. Adobe continues to develop ColdFusion, Lucee is an active open-source runtime, and with BoxLang there is a modern, CFML-compatible language for the JVM. What matters is not the language but architecture, tooling and tests – and that is exactly where modernisation starts.
Adobe ColdFusion, Lucee or BoxLang – which one is right for us?
If you depend on specific Adobe services or existing enterprise support contracts, you stay on Adobe ColdFusion. For most migrations Lucee is the pragmatic choice because of zero licence costs and high compatibility. BoxLang is worth it if you are planning new applications or want to benefit from a modern language in the long run. Which option is realistic for your code is what the assessment shows.
What does a migration cost?
That depends on the size and condition of the code. This is why we start with an assessment whose result is a reliable estimate for the migration – one you could also take to another provider.
Does our application keep running during the migration?
Yes. We migrate in small steps while the application is in production, with no big-bang relaunch. Every step is tested and deployed individually.
Do you work with companies outside Germany?
Yes. We work remotely with teams across Europe and beyond, in English or German. Code reviews, migrations and ongoing development do not require us to be on site.

Curiously, executing the command directly from the CLI worked without any issue.
